Experience more than 600 exotic animals in spacious and natural surroundings at this unique rescue zoo in beautiful Northwest Zealand.
When you visit Rescue Zoo, you are not visiting a traditional, tourist-oriented zoo experience. You are visiting a real zoo and rescue centre, where the work with the animals comes before everything else.
Our focus is not on creating a perfect, polished setting. It is on giving exotic animals in distress the right care, the right enclosures, and a permanent home. This means that as a guest you will experience something different from a traditional zoo. You get an honest insight into everyday life, the work, and the reality behind a place that takes daily responsibility for animals with often difficult histories.
Rescue centres are normally closed to the public. That is what makes it special to go behind the scenes and see how the work actually happens. We believe this insight has great educational value. It builds understanding of why we need to take better care of nature, think more carefully about exotic pets, and treat animals with greater responsibility and respect.
At Rescue Zoo we do not go out and find animals to create an impressive experience for visitors. We stand ready when exotic animals in distress from across Europe need help, a new life, and a permanent home.
This means you may encounter enclosures that are empty at times. That is not because something is missing from the experience — it is because our work is not about filling enclosures for the public. It is about being ready when the animals need us.
When you visit, you may notice that the grounds do not always resemble a classic tourist attraction. Some areas may not be decorated or refined in the same way as more entertainment-oriented parks. That is because our resources go first and foremost to the animals: their food, veterinary needs, enclosures, wellbeing, and individual care.
It is important to us to be honest about this. When you visit a rescue centre, you are not supporting a facade. You are supporting real work.
Rescue Zoo is an approved zoological garden. This approval is what makes it possible to keep exotic animals legally and responsibly in Denmark. All our enclosures meet current zoological regulations, and every year we must be approved by the relevant authorities and uphold high standards of animal welfare and care.
This means that as a guest and supporter, you know the facility is subject to oversight, professional requirements, and a high standard.
You do not come here to pet or handle the animals. You come to see our work, observe the animals as they are, and read the authentic stories of where they came from, what they have been through, and why they live with us.
Some animals look different. Some bear marks of their past. Some have scars, impairments, or special needs. But that does not diminish their worth. On the contrary — it is precisely why they deserve a safe, dignified, and permanent home.
When you visit Rescue Zoo, you are not just visiting a zoo. You are visiting a place built on responsibility, expertise, and real stories. A place where the animals always come first.
