She comes from a private home where she was kept as an illegal pet. We do not know much about her background, but we know she should never have been in a private home. Capuchin monkeys are social and intelligent animals that need companions of their own kind, space, and specialised care — not a life alone in living rooms or small cages.
Rosa is still very young, approximately three years old, and clearly imprinted on humans. We are doing everything we can to give her a safe and calm start here at Rescue Zoo. Viola and Pernille are her dedicated keepers. Her first period was spent in our quarantine, where she had to get used to living in an enclosure, eating from a bowl, and experiencing keepers coming and going at regular times.
The next step was moving into the Tropical House, where she could get used to more activity, other animals, and our visitors. The goal is that she can eventually be integrated into one of our existing groups, so she can learn to be a monkey again in the company of her own kind.
Rosa is just one of many rescue stories here at Rescue Zoo. Help us to help.
