Java Macaques
Javamakak(Macaca fascicularis)Permanent residentVulnerable
In the autumn of 2013, Rescue Zoo received 18 java macaques from a Belgian research center where they had been used in cosmetics testing. After a year in Spain, where the group was assembled and prepared for a new life, they arrived through our partner AAP in the Netherlands. It was the biggest rescue operation the center had ever participated in. The monkeys were part of a group of 100 test animals rehomed to rescue centers across Europe.
